Anthony V. Cava, MS, RPH, FACHE, of Boonton Township, has been named President of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.   Mr. Cava, who joined the hospital in 2015 as Chief Administrative Officer, has more than 30 years of experience in health care administration.

During his tenure at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Mr. Cava has overseen significant renovations and growth, including renovations to the hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory, maternity unit and main lobby and opening the state’s first primary care services for the LGBTQIA community, a Wound Care Center and a Walgreen’s in the hospital’s Emergency Department. The hospital is currently renovating its Behavioral Health Unit and space for its Vascular Laboratory. Later this year, a three-year cardiology renovation and expansion project and a surgical services department renovation project will begin.

Before joining RWJBarnabas Health, Mr. Cava served as Chief Operating Officer for Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. His hospital leadership experience also includes positions as Vice President, Strategic Planning/Business Development and Vice President of Operations at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank; Vice President of Operations for Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood; and Vice President of Operations and Administration and Vice President of Clinical Services at St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital.

Mr. Cava obtained a bachelor’s of science degree from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy in New York and a master’s of science degree in clinical pharmacy and administration from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health.

A registered pharmacist, he is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the New Jersey Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He is a member of the board of the Somerset Business Partnership and the Raritan Valley Community College Foundation.
