Cape May County Freeholders, ‘Coast Guard Community’ Festival Co-chairs and Captain Todd Prestidge, commanding officer of Training Center Cape May (TRACEN), will honor the 2015 Essay and Art Contest winners during the Festival’s evening event on Saturday, May 9 at Cape May Convention Hall.
“‘The 2015 Essay and Art contest is a special way to get the local children to show their creativity. This year’s theme, ‘What the Coast Guard Means to Me,’ hits home for many of the kids,” said Captain Todd Prestidge, commanding officer of Training Center Cape May. “We are truly grateful for their support.”
The Art and Essay contest was broken down into three sections: a Middle School Division Art Competition, an Elementary School Division Art Competition and an Essay Competition.
The Middle School Division Art Competition winners include: first place winner Dominic Alba, age 13, second place winner Emily DeLong, age 11, and third place winner Avery White, age 12. All three winners were from Ms. Colleen Ferraro’s art class at Richard M. Teitelman Middle School in Lower Township.
The Elementary School Division Art Competition winners include: first place winner Julia McLaughlin, age 6, second place winner Madeline Wolff, age 6, and third place winner Peyton Kesterson, age 6. All three winners were from Cape May City Elementary school’s kindergarten class.
First place winner of the Essay Competition is Nicole Wolf, age 18, of Cape May County Technical High School. Second place went to a group entry from Cape May County Technical High School. Robin Barry, age 17, served as group leader for Cameron Friedman, age 18, Erik Wolfe, age 18, Brandon Milano, age 17, Rebecca Dietrich, age 18, and James Schmucker, age 18.
Winning artwork will be displayed at the Coast Guard Community Festival May 8-10 and will remain on display for one year at the Ida Lewis Auditorium at TRACEN.
At the Saturday evening event, attendees can mingle at the Community Connections Mixer; enjoy a concert by the Cape May Pops; and taste local food products. The event is totally free to active military, U.S Coast Guard personnel and families, and the general public!
