When three colleagues with award-winning talent in landscape architecture, garden construction, and water feature design work together, a breathtaking garden that supports a worthwhile community cause can be the brilliant result. This “outdoor room” is just one of the 17 beautiful gardens that will compliment the stunning Alnwick Hall-The Abbey at the Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens in Morris Township, NJ, held from May 1-31, 2017.  The Abbey Courtyard is the creation of the lead Landscape Architects, Bruce Davies and Sean Sweeney of Davies Associates Landscape Architects LLC in Parsippany, NJ, in conjunction with Tim Foerster of Foerster Landscape and Charlie Iuliano of Celebrity Pools.

Nestled within a rectangular walled area of Alnwick Hall -The Abbey, the raised “kitchen garden” will feature a collage of fresh herbs, healthy vegetables and espaliered fruit trees.  Visitors will be able to stroll in the pea gravel-lined courtyard and enjoy a green living wall decorated with flowing grasses and colorful perennials.  In addition, guests can rest on benches and enjoy a soothing rain curtain misting surrounding plantings and creating a “microclimate” within the kitchen garden. The garden to table space will be simple, functional, and sophisticated.

The Before Grounds
The Finished Gardens

When designing the gardens for Mansion in May, the grounds were divided into smaller spaces and captured on a Garden Site Plan. This year, the plan, which includes 17 unique spaces, was created and donated by Davies Associates.  Bruce Davies, NJASLA past president and trustee, has over 40 years of experience as a landscape architect and professional planner.  He has been involved in nine Mansions in May and continues to generously lend a hand to this philanthropic cause.  Bruce says of working with Mansion in May, “Each mansion is uniquely interesting.  I enjoy the creative process and showcasing our best talents while supporting an excellent cause.” All proceeds will benefit the new Center for Nursing Innovation and Research at Morristown Medical Center.

The complete list of landscape design firms that will develop The Abbey’s garden spaces are listed below on the Davies Associates Garden Site Plan. The gardens will feature vibrant flowering plants, whimsical sculptures, water features, artwork and much more.

The Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center is pleased to announce that proceeds from its 18th Mansion in May 2017 Designer Showhouse and Gardens to be held at Alnwick – The Abbey in Morristown will be used to establish the Center for Nursing Innovation and Research at Morristown Medical Center. Mansion in May will be held throughout the month of May 2017 during Morristown Medical Center’s 125th anniversary year.

Morristown Medical Center is focusing on nursing innovation as a strategic priority with a goal of continuing a culture of nursing excellence that encourages and rewards nurses who go beyond existing performance standards, build a foundation to sustain that culture and support Atlantic Health System’s mission to advance the art and science of healing.

The Center for Nursing Innovation and Research will provide an opportunity for nurses to meet, exchange ideas and design solutions to existing or emerging health concerns. Nursing innovation centers are gaining traction across the country in academic centers. The leading programs are found at Penn Medicine, Texas Tech University and Mass General. Morristown Medical Center’s program will be modeled after these industry leaders.

“Adaptation and innovation have been part of our nursing culture for years and the goal now is to prepare the nursing practice for the future of nursing excellence,” said Carol Jones, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, Morristown Medical Center. “We are nationally recognized for our nursing quality—having been designated a prestigious Magnet Hospital for Excellence in Nursing Service for a fourth consecutive time over the past fifteen years—and hope to share those best practices with other nurses, hospitals and health care institutions to improve care.”

“We are grateful to the Women’s Association for their support of our campaign to establish a Center for Nursing Innovation and Research,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, President, Morristown Medical Center. “This support will help us create a leading national program to advance future nursing excellence and create an environment where new practice methods are designed and implemented to benefit our patients and the communities we serve for the future.”

Tri-County scholars, their teachers, staff and classmates from many different schools had a great time putting together a video for the 33rd annual awards dinner of the Tri-County Scholarship Fund. Take a look at the results as they sing and dance to Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy.” You’ll want to get up and dance, too!
