The immense property damage resulting from this year’s Atlantic hurricane season has been a wake-up call for vulnerable communities, especially along coastal areas. With more than 60,000 veterans calling Ocean County home, veteran service organizations held a meet and greet event at the County Connection at the Ocean County Mall, Toms River, on Nov. 8. Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari along with Freeholder Deputy Director Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau and Ocean County Clerk Scott Colabella joined members of the American Legion, and the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau to talk about veteran service organizations and also programs available to members of the military and their families. “We are happy to act as the conduit for our veterans to access organizations that are there specifically for them,” said Freeholder Little. NJ Blood Services, which supplies blood to 60 hospitals throughout the state, is in need of volunteers, to work blood drives. The blood mobile volunteer is an integral member of the blood collection team whose task it is assist donors with registration, perform canteen duties and make appointments for their next donation. One year later, on November 11, 1918 the nightmare that was World War I would finally end.
