IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE RADIO PLAY

Walnut Street Theatre’s 2017-2018 Independence Studio on 3 season continues with the holiday classic, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE RADIO PLAY. Directed by Jesse Bernstein, the production begins with previews on October 31st, opens November 2nd and continues through December 17th.

The art of storytelling is heavenly when you discover IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. The heartwarming story comes to life anew as a radio play, with five actors including an imaginative sound-effects artist! George Bailey dreams of traveling the world. His plans are postponed when the family business faces financial problems. Down on his luck, Bailey is at the end of his rope. He questions his purpose in life and considers ending it all. Just then, an angel arrives to show Bailey how the lives of those he loves would be affected if he were not around. Families Will “Quack Up” at Walnut Street Theatre for Kids’ Production of HONK! JR.

Kids and their adult friends and families will love the WST for Kids’ production of HONK! JR.. Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairytale, The Ugly Duckling, this hour-long musical will be performed LIVE at Walnut Street Theatre September 23 through October 8, 2017.

Ugly is one odd looking baby duck that doesn’t quite fit in, a fact soon noticed and mocked by the other farmyard animals. With the help of a whole flock of unique characters, Ugly sets off on a wild adventure where he soon learns to accept and love what makes him different.

The full-length musical fable HONK! premiered in London’s West End in 1999, becoming the first new British musical to be produced at the prestigious National Theatre. In 2000, the show won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical, with other nominees including The Lion King and Mamma Mia!. Since then, HONK! has taken flight across the world with over 8,000 productions. Following the show’s ongoing success, HONK! JR. was created, an hour-long adaptation, perfect for young audiences. SOUVENIR, A FANTASIA ON THE LIFE OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Walnut Street Theatre’s 2017-2018 Independence Studio on 3 season opens with Broadway’s tribute to a woman of song, SOUVENIR, A FANTASIA ON THE LIFE OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS. Written by Stephen Temperley and directed by Debi Marcucci, the production begins with previews on September 12th, opens September 14th and continues through October 15th.

It’s time to believe again in the power of music! SOUVENIR is based on the story of one of opera’s most unforgettable stars. Florence Foster Jenkins, an eccentric and wealthy socialite, believes she is an enchanting coloratura soprano and wants to share her talent with the world. After teaming up with a new pianist, Cosmé McMoon, she begins to hold recitals at the Ritz Carlton, festooned in fabulous costumes. She becomes a sensation! Unfortunately, the truth is Mrs. Jenkins can’t sing. World T.E.A.M. Sports’ Face of America Liberty Debuts this October 8

National nonprofit World T.E.A.M. Sports announced today the opening of athlete registration for the October 8 Face of America Libertybicycle and hand cycle ride from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York to the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan.

The 54-mile ride, presented by Northwell Health, is an inclusive ride honoring military veterans who were injured or disabled during their national service. It follows a trial run in October 2015. Athlete registration will be capped at about 150 riders for the October event.  Of the participating athletes riding to Manhattan, approximately 30 adaptive veterans will be invited to ride. These athletes live with loss of limb, paralysis, Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and other disabilities; yet turn to bicycling to keep physically and mentally fit. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum

Walnut’s Independence Studio on 3 Explores the Secret of the Mockingbird in THE GIFT

Walnut Street Theatre’s 2016-2017 Independence Studio on 3 season continues with the story behind the making of a great novel in THE GIFT. Written by Will Stutts and directed by Greg Wood, the production begins previews on February 21, opens February 23 and continues through March 19 in the Walnut’s Independence Studio on 3.

THE GIFT takes place on a Southern porch in a small town in Alabama, where two friends are together again.
