2017 Doggie Derby

The 5th Annual Rotary Club of Forked River Doggie Derby was a howling success!!! Man’s best friend was celebrated at this Hometown Family Event with canine demonstrations and competitions, vendors and food, music, rescues and activities for the young, the not so young and all our furry friends. It was a day that brought us together to celebrate all our furbabies and to benefit the many charitable contributions the Rotary Club of Forked River continues to make to our community and our citizens. For those dog owners that had your picture taken by our photographer, details will be forthcoming how you can download your photo and help by contributing to the Rotary Club of Forked River. Rotary Minute May 2017

Hello Spring and Welcome everyone to a Rotary season of events, fellowship and applause!!

Sometimes deadlines and events just aren’t on the same wavelength. Missing the deadline, was our Texas Hold’em Tournament. Lady Luck was very kind to our tournament players and in the end good company and great prizes made for a winning hand for all!!! Congratulations to our 1st place Tournament Champion Tim Petrin!!

Do you know about the Rotary Dictionary Project? The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn. With that in mind, the Rotary Club of Forked River, after consultation with our 3rd grade teachers who overwhelmingly support this program, distributed dictionaries to all Lacey and Waretown 3rd graders!

Scholarships 2017

Members of the Rotary Scholarship Committee are reviewing the applications of the soon-to-be graduates of the Class of 2017. Every year the Forked River Rotary presents to graduating high school students, who live in our service district, scholarships totaling $20,000. This year there will be an additional scholarship in honor and in memory of William “Bill” Whitson, a long time Rotarian and friend. Standing Tall!

Abraham Lincoln once said “I like to see men proud of where they live”. If you’ve ever wondered where those American Flags come from, the ones you see flying proudly along the Rt 9 and Lacey Rd corridors, they are there because of the joint efforts of the Forked River Rotary and the businesses that sponsor and support this tradition of saluting the USA! Plans are underway for 2017! We’d love to see all of Rt 9 and Lacey Rd proudly flying our Flag on Memorial Day. We do all the work! Flags are put out in the early morning of the holiday and then removed by Rotarians by sundown. See any Rotarian or message us on our Facebook page “Rotary Club of Forked River” for more information on how you can be part of this show of American pride!

Forked River Rotary December Happenings

Annual Christmas Brunch

Our club kicked off the holiday season with our annual Christmas brunch at the Captain’s Inn, the event was well attended as many Rotarians, family members and friends took part in the food and festivities.  The event started with a wide selection of fruits and breakfast pastries, also need to mention the breakfast bar buffet set up by the inns staff.  Children that attended were kept busy by Rob and Debra with a medley of Christmas Carols, Letters to send to Santa and goodie bags with holiday projects until the man in the red suit made his appearance.  The best part of the day was seeing the smiling faces on all the children that day.  Don’t forget it’s not too late to make a donation to our Elf Program!  Thank you to Rob & Debra for a great event! 2016 Club Food Drive For Lacey Food Bank at Walmart & Turkey Distribution by Our Club & LTHS Interact Club

With the Thanksgiving meal bags distributed by the Rotary last Friday barely put away in the cupboard, the Forked River Rotarians set up post outside of the Walmart in Lanoka Harbor on very windy and cold
Saturday for their 2nd Annual Rotary Day of Giving Food Drive – a day geared to restocking the shelves of the Lacey Food Bank. In anticipation of another cold winter and a higher than ever amount of families needing help the Rotary Club of Forked River together with the Staff and Shoppers of WalMart pulled together and presented the Lacey Food Bank with more than 3000 lbs of shelf stable non-perishable groceries! More than last year’s 2500 lbs of food! And not one expired can or box in the lot!!!! In addition to the food donations, shoppers dropped their change and their dollars in the collection jar….gifting the Food Bank with a $500 donation for the day!! But perhaps, even more important, this Day of Giving reinforces how all of us together, Rotarians, Walmart and the Shoppers who supported this program, can serve humanity simply by doing a little bit of good, right where we live! Thank You Rotary Club of Forked River Members, WalMart and WalMart Shoppers for your support of this Rotary effort to help those in our Lacey community who need it the most!

2016 Turkey Distribution by our Club and LTHS Interact Club
