Ernest Kaufman tells his remarkable story as a holocaust survivor, a WWII survivor and local award winning chicken farmer, this Sunday September 17 at the Little Egg Harbor Meeting House located at 21 E. Main Street in Tuckerton.

This story, which has been presented by Ernest Kaufman with a focus on lessons learned from the holocaust, to numerous schools and community groups over the years, was published last year.  From Fright to Fight to Farm is a memoir of three dramatic, life-changing chapters in one man’s life.  It is an inspirational, three-part saga that follows his extraordinary life from Nazi Germany to life in America.  As stated by Outskirts Press April 19, 2016:

“Kaufman’s journey begins in Germany, where he is expelled from school at age 15 because he is Jewish, shattering his dreams of becoming a veterinarian. At age 18 he finds himself a prisoner at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. Fortunately, he is released from Concentration Camp because an American couple, complete strangers to him, offer to and sponsor him, enabling him to get a visa and immigrate to America. He endures a tearful farewell with his parents before leaving for Philadelphia, PA, not knowing whether he’ll ever see them again. When he enlists in the U.S. Army, it is with two goals in mind: to fight the Nazis and to track down his parents.

With his intelligence, courage and intimate knowledge of the German language and culture, Kaufman becomes a decorated war hero, taking part in the Invasion in Europe in 1944, where he is seriously wounded in combat. After returning to duty in 1946, he is stationed in Germany until he is reassigned stateside two years later.

Major Kaufman is retired from military service in 1951 because of his combat-incurred physical disability and begins a 35-year career as a poultry farmer, learning to competently cope with many of the challenges, disappointments and successes that are typical of a farm operation. The third section of From Fright to Fight to Farm chronicles the development of the author’s award-winning poultry farm in New Egypt, NJ, where he substitutes farming for his originally hoped for veterinary career.”

From Fright to Fight to Farm is available online through Outskirts Press at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore. It is sold through Amazon and Barnes and Noble for a maximum trade discount in quantities of 10 or more.

The presentation is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Victory Cage Radler: Light, dry, and extremely drinkable, this clean and crisp lager is perfectly balanced with the flavors and aromas of fresh lemon.

Fruli:  Light German import with a nice hint of fresh strawberries. Really flavorful and refreshing.

Beach Haus Blonde: clean with cascades of fine, bright white bubbles that introduce a nose of soft bread sweetness then balanced by a subdued hop presence.

Stella Cidre:

Dry, balanced and not too sweet, but as crisp and delicious as the apples used. Gluten free.

Evan John Porter:  Smooth and complex Porter infused with whole vanilla beans.

Swamp Donkey:  A balance of floral and fruit from 3 types of American hops with a dry finish.

Saturday, June 10
11 am – 5pm
Arrrgh, me hearties! Would-be pirates of all ages are invited to Tuckerton Seaport for the 6th Annual Privateers & Pirates Festival.

This is your chance to set sail for a fun-filled day for the entire family. The Seaport staff has been plottin’ and schemin’ for months to come up with a line-up even a landlubber would enjoy. The day’s activities begin at 11am with a Pirate Meet & Greet. Get your hands on a treasure map as you enter to join in the fun of a treasure hunt.

Live the life of a privateer or pirate and learn the difference between the two. Enjoy live entertainment throughout the day with Pirates for Sail and be immersed in an interactive pirate adventure for a swashbuckling good time! Face the enemy by challenging him to a race aboard the Pirate Obstacle Challenge, but be wary of the captain that guards the ship’s entrance! If it’s treasured memories you seek, spend the day at the Seaport and live the pirate’s life of plunder.

Admission is $9 for adults, $6 for seniors (age 62+), $5 for children ages 5-12.  Seaport members and children under 5 are free.
