The term Outsider art describes works created outside the boundaries of the established art scene or official culture.  Other labels used to describe this particular group of art are Intuitive, Naïve, or Visionary art.  These artists have developed their own unique styles to solve creative problems or to express themselves without formal training.  Their images are often uninhibited, spontaneous, and psychic.  For the month of October, the Waretown Branch of the Ocean County Library presents a display of such artists both from our local area and from the Trenton Community A-TEAM (TCAT) Artists group.

Marty Mayo’s evocative artwork encompasses various media to achieve his art.  Mayo’s colors and subjects are unrestrained.   He comes from a family of distinguished artists who have inspired his works.

Larry Pater is a newly discovered Outsider artist.  Each subject he paints comes from a compelling desire to capture and explain his visions or psychic observations and beliefs.

A-Team Artists of Trenton are visual artists who use the services of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.  This group was formed to offer needed resources to pursue creative activities, provide a supportive environment, and offer a means to sell their art.  Since the formation of this group in 2001, their numbers have grown and their artworks have been displayed on the walls of galleries and museums.  They have extended their focus to form shows and workshops for various groups that provide services for physically and cognitively disabled adults.

These programs are free and open to the public.

The BNI Lacey Networking Group is pleased to announce that their Chapter will be hosting a special Visitors Day Networking Meeting at Kristy’s Diner, 562 Route 9, Waretown NJ on July 20th at 8AM.

“This special meeting is geared toward helping local business people gain insight on how BNI works,” says prominent local businessperson Dan Covell, of Ameriprise Financial. How to build a successful referral based business through a structured word-of-mouth marketing program will be the focus of this meeting.

BNI is the world’s largest and most successful business and professional referral organization. They were founded in 1985 by Dr. Ivan R. Misner, and currently have over 5,000 chapters throughout the United States, and numerous countries internationally.

What makes BNI unique is full time word-of-mouth marketing professionals run each region, and they operate on the “Givers Gain” philosophy. “What goes-around comes-around”! If I help you, and you help me, we will all do far more business together as a result of that cooperation.

BNI chapters follow a proven meeting agenda that keep the meetings focused on their primary purpose of generating new business. They have sound policies, proven procedures, and a strong Code of Ethics. Also, they allow only one person per profession to join a chapter. Thus, once you have been accepted, none of your competitors can participate.

BNI chapters in the Delaware Valley Region have each averaged well over two million dollars in new business referrals for their members each year. They also enjoy the added benefit of repeat business and spin-off business from these referrals.

“Networking contributes exponentially to the business referrals that any business receives. A good Networker can get most of their business, their best business, or both through referrals,” says Covell. “We are a “Givers Gain” Organization. We believe that by helping each other we will all do far more business together as a result of that mutual cooperation. Our goal is to build upon this type of referral business in the BNI Lacey Networking Chapter area.”

For information about getting involved, or to get directions to this event please visit the “Calendar of Events” section of ” http://www.BNIDVR.Com” or call Dan Covell at (609) 361-4577.

20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable at the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education in Waretown, New Jersey.

This much anticipated and regionally significant educators’ workshop is scheduled for April 19, 2017 from 3 PM until 7:45 PM. This year’s theme is “Re-Discovering Barnegat Bay” with workshop topics that reflect the important and diverse natural resources that sustain a healthy Barnegat Bay Watershed. Registration is open to adults interested in “re-discovering” Ocean County’s unique wetlands, woodlands, native flora and fauna, and historic people and places; facilitators represent diverse environmental organizations and agencies.

The Ocean County Soil Conservation District invites you to our 20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable. Come see what all the excitement is about as area educators and community members explore the important role our watershed plays in connection to the health of our community. Both educators and nature enthusiasts from all over the county can engage in interactive workshops designed to inspire a new appreciation of our waterways, native woodlands, plants, animals, local history, and the watershed. Participants will engage in hands-on activities and field experiences to learn how to collect data, identify plants, cast a seine net, sample a creek for macroinvertebrates, determine how wildlife meet their basic needs, investigate the effects of climate change on our watershed and its impacts on our future, and explore local history of people and places in our watershed. Over one hundred educators and nature enthusiasts are expected to participate in this 20th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable to learn, network and bring resources back to their classrooms, students and community. The Roundtable Steering Committee strives to help our local educators and community members to “think globally and act locally.” We believe that an appreciation and understanding of the local environment helps lead to a sense of place and connection for area students and residents. Roundtable highlights include a light dinner, a FREE resource table, door prizes and a special Keynote presentation. The Steering Committee has put together a variety of programs that offer something for everyone.

Visit the OCSCD website at www.soildistrict.org for a complete description of programs.

Registration this year is on-line; educators and nature enthusiasts should register now to assure a spot in their favorite workshop!

Call the Soil District at 609-971-7002 ext. 114 for further information. For directions to the Lighthouse Center: http://www.lighthousecenternj.org/
