Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson and David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation are proud to present the inaugural Hope Under The Sea Gala which will take place on Saturday November 11th at Adventure Aquarium.
The inaugural Hope Under the Sea Gala honors the relationship between Stage IV cancer survivor David Caldarella (Co-Founder, David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation), Dr. David Cognetti (Associate Professor and Co-Director, Jefferson Head and Neck Surgery), and the entire Thomas Jefferson University Hospital team. This partnership shares a common goal to serve as a Beacon of Hope for individuals and families battling a cancer diagnosis.
“Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event for patients and their families. The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson has been recognized as a NCI-Designated Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute since 1996, and is one of only 69 institutions in the nation to hold this prestigious status. SKCC is committed to delivering the most advanced, personalized cancer care, made possible through their scientific discoveries and breakthroughs in detecting and treating cancer. I have first-hand experience of that world-class care from my 2010 diagnosis, battle and subsequent victory over stage IV head and neck cancer,” said Caldarella. “During that time, I created David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation with a group of passionate friends to ‘Pay Forward’ the same kindness, compassion and spirit of generosity that I received during my cancer battle. Six and half years later, 926 families battling a cancer diagnosis have been provided more than $750,000 in financial support with countless more receiving wellness services, emotional support and HOPE.”
Events such as hope Hope Under The Sea allow Caldarella & his team to continue to serve those in need. Net proceeds of this affair will benefit the quality of life for cancer patients through the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson’s Neu Center for Supportive Medicine & Cancer Survivorship, Jefferson Health’s Mission in Haiti through the Jefferson Department of Otolaryngology and David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation.
The black-tie optional gala will feature speeches from the 2017 Beacon of Hope Award Recipient Dr. Cognetti, Mr. David Neu, Big Daddy Graham & Dawn Aversa, as well as a cocktail reception, a plated dinner, auctions, a performance from American Idol’s Cara Samantha and a private concert with G. Love & Special Sauce.
